5 Easy Ways to Enjoy Romantic Getaways With Kids

Romantic Family Vacations: How to Get the Most Out of Your Trip as a Couple

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we know how hard it is for parents to find time away from the kids—and this is especially true during vacations. Getting to spend some time as a couple is essential for a happy relationship and just because you’re on a trip with the entire family doesn’t mean you can’t find some time to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company! Romantic getaways with kids are possible, and here are just a few of the tips we have to ensure you get to experience the best of both worlds:

1. Find Multi-Bedroom Accommodation Options

Nothing diminishes alone time after a day of fun with the whole family quite like having to tiptoe around your sleeping children in a cramped, traditional hotel room. Booking for vacation accommodations with multiple bedrooms not only gives you more room to breathe, but also provides an opportunity to spend some quality time as a couple. Put the kids to sleep, close the door to the additional bedroom, and utilize the remaining common areas without the fear of waking up your kids. Many of these larger suites have amenities like full kitchens, living and dining areas, private patios, and multiple TVs, which means you can relax and unwind with your spouse while enjoying all the comforts of home.

2. Work Alone Time Into Your Schedule

It’s wonderful to go into a vacation and want to do something special with your spouse, but waiting for the opportunity to present itself might mean you don’t actually have the chance to do it. Take some time before you leave for your trip to plan out a few activities you would like to do together and approximate days/times you might be able to achieve it, whether that’s an adult-only excursion or a nice dinner alone. If possible, schedule these items in advance and make alternative plans for your children. Trust us, you’ll be happy that you worked some guaranteed alone time into your week that you can look forward to and look back on fondly.

3. Stay at a Resort With a Kids’ Club

Vacations are fun, but it can be exhausting to constantly search for ways to keep your family entertained while hanging out on-site. Fortunately, there are plenty of resorts out there with dedicated kids’ or teens’ clubs, which is perfect for couples to slip away for a few hours during the day without worrying about the supervision of their kids. These programs are filled with incredible activities, take-home crafts, and have well-trained staff members who are keeping an eye on their little ones. Take advantage of this built-in fun so you can take a little time away to be with one another and enjoy some other common resort amenities like hot tubs, spas, saunas, restaurants, and bars.

4. Travel With Family or Friends

Not only is traveling with family a great way to bond and spend time together, but you might also have the chance to use a built-in babysitter. Explore the conversation of your family member(s) watching your kids for an evening so you can enjoy a meal together. Also, consider traveling with friends who have kids that are similar ages to your own. The littles will have fun playing together, which will give both couples the chance to enjoy each other’s company a bit more. You may also be able to trade off babysitting so each couple can enjoy a date night! Just be sure to talk to your co-vacationers about potential babysitting to have the same expectations and a great trip!

5. Consider Hiring a Babysitter

If you’re really itching for a date night while on your family vacation, there’s no reason to stress about finding supervision for the kids! Many resorts either offer in-room babysitting or have a referral list of nearby sitters/agencies they recommend. You’ll be able to enjoy your evening knowing your kids are in the hands of preferred professionals and truly focus on your time together. If you hope to have multiple couple-only outings during your trip, it’s often suggested to book the same babysitter so it’s easier and more familiar for your children, especially if they are feeling particularly upset about your departure.
