Celebrate Family Fun Month!

August is National Family Fun Month, and what better way to celebrate the end of summer than with an exciting family trip or short getaway. While day trips and family activities are fun, taking the time to plan a vacation is the best way to bond and make memories as a family. Everyone is relaxed and away from everyday life, making it easy to unwind and have some fun!

Here are four fun last minute trips you can take with your family this month to celebrate being together!

Yellowstone National Park – Wyoming

National Parks are perfect for families to visit because you can customize your experience based on different age groups and interests. Yellowstone National Park is quite impressive, not to mention the world’s first national park. With an active volcano beneath the park, there are over 10,000 hydrothermal features including hot springs, geysers, and mudpots that all ages will enjoy viewing. This 3,500-square-mile park boasts 300 waterfalls and stunning wildlife like moose, bison, elk, and even grizzly bears.

If you’re looking to camp out, it’s $30 for a seven-day vehicle pass, $50 if you want to add a pass to Grand Teton National Park. Be sure to check your calendar though, as there are select dates this year that you can visit the park for free!

City Museum – Missouri

Some kids (and parents) might consider museums to be a snooze fest, but the City Museum in St. Louis is not just any children’s museum. City Museum offers an immersive experience with suspended tunnels to crawl through, man-made caves to explore, a 10-story slide, and a Ferris wheel to ride. The museum is quite intriguing to behold with a 600,000-square-foot factory that has been transformed with interesting and unique architecture. There is also the free Citygarden, where adults can walk through the sculpture garden and the kids can splash in the fountains.

$12 gets you in the City Museum, making it very affordable for a fun family day out. While in St. Louis, you can also ride to the nation’s tallest monument, Gateway Arch. This trip it $13 for adults and $10 for kids—and the views are worth it!

Cedar Point – Ohio

If your family likes to live on the adventurous side, consider a trip out to Ohio to visit Cedar Point, which consistently ranks as one of the top amusement parks in all the world. Known as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” your family will have 17 thrilling coasters to choose from. If not everyone in your family loves an adrenaline rush, there are plenty of tamer rides to choose from including carousels, tilt-a-whirl, and a full on-site water park. There’s also fun live entertainment and family events that are worth checking out throughout the day.

General admission is $39.99 when you buy online, but if you’re a real amusement park junkie, you can upgrade your ticket and skip the lines, enjoy discounted food, or reserve a cabana at the waterpark.

San Antonio River Walk – Texas

For some casual, relaxed family fun, head off to Texas and see what you can find strolling along the San Antonio River Walk. This five mile stretch features many historic sites, like the Alamo, that you can visit for free. There’s also a wealth of shops, restaurants, and museums to check out. Some notable spots include the Majestic Theatre, Brackenridge Park and Golf Course, Shops at Rivercenter, Towers of Americas, and the San Antonio Museum of Art.

The San Antonio River Walk is free to stroll down, just be sure to set aside some funds for shopping, dining, and museum admission that you’ll definitely feel the need to stop for. You can also take a boat tour along the River Walk for $10, with a $4 fee for children ages one to five.
