National Travel and Tourism Week Special Events

This week marks 2017’s official National Travel and Tourism Week, a week-long observance dedicated to celebrating the travel and tourism industries in the United States. This year, we’ve chosen to recognize the week by highlighting some of the unique events happening around the country’s best travel destinations, in an effort to help you find out where all the action is. From Lego representations of a galaxy far, far away, to delicious craft beer and authentic paella, you’ll find a number of excellent things to do wherever you’re traveling for National Travel and Tourism Week.

#1. LEGO® Star Wars Days™

Taking place at the LEGOLAND Florida Resort in Orlando from May 6th to May 14th, the LEGO Star Wars Days incorporates 1.5 million Lego bricks to put on displays of some of the film franchise’s most memorable scenes. Also at the event will be hands-on building activities and a Star Wars-themed parade. So, if you’re vacationing around the Orlando area this week, be sure to don your best Star Wars costumes and head down to LEGOLAND for some galactic fun!

#2. Kauai Food Tour

This four-hour tour of some of Kauai’s best restaurants and eateries is happening on May 11th, and promises some delicious cuisine as well as useful education. Starting with a 90-minute tour of a family-owned farm where you can learn about traditional Hawaiian cuisine, this culinary adventure will bring you to some of the best spots around the island’s Coconut Coast. The tour will offer guests an intimate dining experience with the island’s best chefs, and offers a day filled with delicious food and drink among paradise.

#3. San Diego Paella Wine & Beer Festival

Running on May 13th from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM, the San Diego Paella Wine & Beer Festival is an incredibly unique National Travel Week event. Located in the beautiful waterfront Embarcadero South Marina Park, the festival offers all you can eat paella from more than 40 chefs, as well as three complimentary samples of sangria, wine, or local beer. More alcohol from 20 wineries and local breweries will be available for purchase. With live entertainment and proceeds from the event going toward local scholarships, every foodie in San Diego has to put this event on their list.

Held each year on the day before Mother’s Day, the Mayfest on Main Festival in Myrtle Beach is the perfect start to summer.
